The LBI for Lung Vascular Research brings together excellent researchers and business partners in the dynamic field of lung vascular remodelling and reverse-remodelling therapy into a single, multi disciplinary and highly competitive institute at the Medical University of Graz. The clinical background is set by a well described group of devastating diseases, the different forms of pulmonary hypertension.

Epidemiological data are not available for the entire field of pulmonary hypertension, however, approximately 15 % of all patients suffering from the most common causes of death, severe heart failure and chronic obstructive lung disease develop pulmonary hypertension which has a major impact on survival. The LBI will favourably combine experimental know-how, innovative imaging techniques and clinical background for high-yield research in an integrated approach. This assembly in one place is unique, worldwide.
